"… Ray's whimsical, textured collage illustrations are stunning; moonlit landscapes, spattered with golden stars and crawling with creatures…"

This magical ghost story will enchant young readers.

The varied refrain is mysterious and rhythmic: “Here comes Jinnie, the children call
But she doesn't turn her head, if she hears them at all.”

When the children are asleep, Jinnie creeps into their dreams and makes them come true. Ellen dives with dolphins, Owen boogies with bogeymen, Joe rides on a giant’s back to his castle in the sky…

I was very excited and proud when Jane Ray asked me to write a ghost story for her to illustrate. We had worked together on Fairy Tales (Walker Books) and I felt very honoured to be given a chance to work again with this wonderful illustrator. Jane was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway award for her illustrations for both Fairy Tales and Jinnie Ghost.

Writing tip

Perhaps you could write a story/poem about a bringer of dreams. Who is it? What is their name? What do they look like? Who do they come to, and what kind of dreams do they bring? Perhaps you could illustrate it too, full of magical shapes and colours, just like your dreams.
